School Planning Support
We know that planning any trip is time-consuming. With a residential there is even more to think about! We are highly experienced in supporting teachers in the planning of their trips to The Wilderness and would like to offer you as much help as possible.
We have prepared a number of documents to help you get parents on board, as well as others to help you as the trip approaches! Many of the forms are provided as ‘Word’ documents so that you can personalise them to your school. The documents are available to download on a password-protected page here. Please contact us for the password.
Getting parents on board
Initial Letter to Parents: Use this to inform parents of the proposed trip, with the option of inviting them to an information session.
Parent Information Sheet: Send this to parents who missed the information session, or use it if you choose not to have an information session.
Wilderness Centre PowerPoint: Use this as part of your information session for parents. There’s a link to a short film on the final page! Feel free to add in your own information. You can also show this to the pupils to get them excited.
Pupils’ Information Sheet: Once you know the trip is going ahead, share this with the pupils.
Closer to departure
Medical Consent Form: Your school/LA might have their own version of this, but here’s a form for collecting key information and consents.
Dietary, Medical, Special Needs Summary: Use this to summarise what parents have told you on the Medical Consent Forms.
Kit List: This is the recommended kit list for a 2-night trip. Please amend if you are going for a different length of time.
Final Reminder Letter to Parents: Send this a few days before to give parents the information for departure day etc.
House Floor Plan: Use this to work out where everyone is sleeping!
Optional Pupil Contract: Some schools find this a useful prompt with their pupils both before and after the trip.
Optional Certificates: Always a good way of celebrating and sharing achievement. Don’t forget the staff too!
What to do if guide…: This could be shared with staff who are going on the trip.
Remember, these are just suggestions to help you – you might have your own forms, so always take advice from your school’s Education Visits Coordinator. The Wilderness Centre will need to know any dietary requirements about a month ahead of your visit.
We are here to make this as easy as possible, as we believe every child should have the opportunity to go on a residential! Please telephone or email if you have any questions or concerns at all.
